Odd Future - Radical

I popped into Rakinos on Friday night, to snap The ARC and P-Money, and lo and behold a couple of the guys from Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All were there!

They didn’t stay very long as they were probably tired. However, I did manage to fire off a few quick snaps of them.

Doc Daneeka:
It’s not common for an artist based in Wales to become the toast of underground music, but Doc Daneeka is just that. With releases on Ramp, Fabric, PTN & Well Rounded in the bag, Doc Daneeka has started his own boutique label, Ten Thousand Yen, releasing other fresh artists like xxxy, Julio Bashmore as well as his own unique material. Bookings all around Europe at the end of last year solidified Doc Daneeka’s energetic DJ sets as one of the most sought after performances by clubs all around the world.

Nick Hook:
Heavily responsible for the grimy techno-soul of NYC’s Cubic Zirconia and the greasy bass of Drop The Lime’s live show, DJ and producer Nick Hook has been “twisting knobs” (self-description) for a minute now. He is no stranger to the dark underbelly of late night clubs, having played in some of the finest temples of boom the world over. His unique strain of acid-fried basslines and vintage drum machines have kept him in demand amongst a smorgasbord of musicians, as he is currently working with El-P of Company Flow and L-Vis 1990 of Night Slugs. He also has red hair, which is a plus in our books.

Jillionaire:
Universe schooled, Caribbean made, the Jillionaire is a DJ like no other. He has previously teamed up with M.I.A, Switch, Major Lazer and can currently be found representing Diplo’s record label, Mad Decent. Combined with his energetic onstage presence and versatile sound, he hypnotizes jillions across the globe.

Scratch Perverts (UK) @ Ink Bar

Friday, January 6, 2012 10:00pm until 7:00am

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND WELCOME TO 2012
As most of your are broken and bent from the new years celebrations, we have decided to party through. We have one the sickest turntablist trio to ever hit the dance scene to fly over and are set to annihilate our bar.

We present to you....THE SCRATCH PERVERTS

The Scratch Perverts are a collective of turntablist DJs from London, formed in 1996 by Tony Vegas, Prime Cuts and DJ Renegade.

The Scratch Perverts originally consisted of 4 members; Tony Vegas, Renegade, First Rate and Mr Thing. The Scratch Perverts later expanded to an 8-member crew with the addition of Prime Cuts, Harry Love, Killa Kela and Plus One. The collective split for a short period in 2000, then reformed with just 3 members; Tony Vegas, Prime Cuts and Plus One. The other members did not reform due to artistic differences, and have gone on to pursue individual projects.

The Scratch Perverts have garnered widespread acclaim. The team won the first DMC Team championships in 1999, claiming it again in the 'Perverted Allies' alias (a fusion of the Perverts and the Allies DJ crews). Additionally Prime Cuts claimed 2 consecutive ITF World Scratching titles, first beating A-Trak in Hawaii in 1999 and then defending the title in Los Angeles the following year. Plus One won the Vestax battle in 2000, not begetting his returning the DMC World crown to the UK after a hiatus of 10 years. Their technical contributions include the 'feedback' technique and the Euro scratch amongst others.

They have now retired indefinitely from competition and gone on to regular live DJing, touring around the world & holding a residency at Fabric in London. They have also gone on to producing their own music, describing hip hop as being "a celebration of all kinds of music just by its very nature". The Scratch Perverts are also notable for their adoption of drum and bass, Dubstep and Crack House.

The collective has been known to use MySpace in order to advertise both themselves and their music.

Along with these legends, we have a great local line up!

Give Me A Dub Plate - Freestylers

Friday, December 30, 2011

Time 10:00pm until 7:00am

After a fifteen-year career which has seen the Freestylers cover all bases from the biggest festivals and most talked about nightclubs around the world, global dance charts and even the legendary UK music show Top Of The Pops, they have achieved the kind of success most artists can only dream of. And now, with attention firmly turned to the studio, it’s fair to say Matt Cantor and Aston Harvey are set for a veritable assault on the music scene in 2011.

After discovering a mutual love of hip-hop and electro, Matt and Aston started making tracks together in the mid ‘90’s and have honed their craft across countless genres since. Currently focusing on everything from breaks to ragga and dubstep, their ever-eclectic style rings true with each track unleashed from their palms.

Since last year’s release of ‘Cracks’, which has soared past 3 million hits on YouTube, fans and media have been waiting with baited breath for their next move. Upcoming EP ‘Frozen’ looks set to cause big waves when it hits stores in the coming weeks, and with countless hours of studio time booked in, keep those eyes peeled for their new artist album due to touch down at the later end of the year…

Releases aside, the Freestylers 2011 gig diary is filling up at speed, with only the coolest festivals and venues on their hit list. Anyone who’s experienced a Freestylers set will know what we mean when we say, you will be rocked hard, and those that haven’t… what are you waiting for??

If you are into breaks then this party is for you!
