The end of year Xmas party for The ARC, Hit It & Quit It, Minimal Wage and Clocked Promotions.

Four of Auckland’s dopest parties have combined for one night only to farewell 2011 and pay homage to the hip hop/soul/house mecca that is DETROIT. Hip hop/Funk/Soul/Jazz in Coherent, and Detroit House and Techno in Ink.

For this party we’ve enlisted the help of one of the finest DJ’s to come out of Rock City-

As well as being Mayer Hawthorne’s tour DJ he has worked with Slum Village, Guilty Simpson, Aloe Blacc, Percee P, Phat Kat, Elzhi and the late great J Dilla himself. Shoes killed it last time he was here, playing to a packed Zen in homage of his good friend Jay Dee, as part of his worldwide Dilla tribute tour.

Tiki embarked on his solo artist career in January 2007 and has gone from strength to strength. Now one of New Zealand’s most popular and diverse award-winning artists Tiki is renowned as much for his powerful live performances as he is for his anthems.

In November 2007, he released his debut LP ‘Past Present Future’ which achieved double platinum sales and saw his beautiful acoustic love ballad ‘Always on my mind’ rise to number one.

This tune broke two all-time New Zealand records, it sat in the charts for a record 54 weeks and was also the first-ever digital single to achieve platinum sales.

In July 2009, Tiki released his remix album ‘FLUX’. Tiki is currently releasing his music in Australia as well as working on a new album for release in 2010 in New Zealand.

My main man, Mr. Derrick “Mayday” May, has presented a new DJ mix on BBC 6 Music 6 Mix.

6 Mix celebrates the May Day weekend with a brand new mix from techno pioneer Derrick May. Derrick - best known for his 1987 dance anthem Strings of Life under the name Rhythim Is Rhythim - has been an iconic name on the techno scene for over twenty years, DJing worldwide to a devoted fan base. Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, May's work - alongside fellow DJs Juan Atkins and Inner City's Kevin Saunderson - has provided the catalyst for a number of producers worldwide. In his latest 6 Music show Derrick plays a selection of tunes which have influenced and inspired him including tracks by Brian Eno, Peven Everett and Model 500. There's also a brand new 'Mayday' club mix featuring hot new material from his label - Transmat Recordings - and a selection of tracks of Derrick's favourite album of 2010 so far; Gil Scott Heron's 'I'm New Here.'
